Why are my songs still quiet after mastering?

Could be compounding frequencies. Try notching the bass and kick with an EQ. Give everything its own space. It could be a build up of fundamental frequencies.

Recommend a good all-round recording bass - DI.

Disclaimer: I'm not a bass player I have recorded a few different basses over the years and have always thought that G&L (Musicman) make great sounding and versiitile basses.

U2 Gives Away New Album NOW, No Money in CD Sales

Not sure that any bandwidth would be used if you didn't download the album. It showed up in my iTunes but I had to download it to listen.

Do you memorize lyrics before recording?

Memorizing the lyrics won't make it sound better. That is done by selecting proper gear and using mic techniques. Memorizing the lyrics will help in capturing a better performance IMO which of course is very important. You can make is sound better during mixing but you cannot fix the...

Regarding the human voice ....what is stereo? What is panning? What's the difference?

So then there would be no stereo source I'm guessing... at least that you can hear with your ears. What if a trigger (transducer) was attached to a snare drum in space? Would the trigger work? I'm thinking it would but I really don't know. OK, bad example. The point i was trying to make is that...

What if it were in a vacuum? Would there be such thing as a stereo source?

what is the suitable nudge time?

Yup what others have said... anything more than 15 - 34 ms is considered a distinct echo

Regarding the human voice ....what is stereo? What is panning? What's the difference?

Seems to me that recording with two mics to capture a stereo image would have nil effect recorded outside a room. For example, the walls are creating reflections which allow the sound to reach your ears at different times allowing you to capture a stereo image. If an instrument was recorded in...

    Toto - Africa Cover

I remember seeing/hearing this cover done before........ it is a good example of what went missing when the bass is left out. You guys gave it a good go but I'm somewhat spoiled after hearing this cover already...

Same mics pointing in the same direction will likely sound the same. The mics would need to be in x/y or
