Yesterday, I did about 10 takes with the guitar. Every take had something wrong with it. Little things like fret buzz or a missed fingering.... things like that. Is there a way to hide these things in the mix?
I don’t want a hit record, I just want it to sound good.
Well… here I am staring at my latest configuration of a studio. I look at every piece and can relate it to someone’s help here. When I started, I started with a 4-track Portastudio in a travel trailer. Now I have a setup I think I’m going to really like. A base to start getting better quality...
I was watching this fella, trying to learn a bit about my setup, and he talks about bringing in the box effects out to two channels. It looks to me like he is just making a buss for them, and bringing out only the effects??? Then using his faders to adjust the effect. The only way I can do it...
Its not much to look at, but its mine......
I use this every week as an audio interface to my computer, but I haven't worked or recorded on it for over a year. My wife's baby sister is turning 50, and she wants to record a song for her. This is going to be fun!!!!
After my last success, I decided to try my luck again. My Dad used to say I had a lot of want-to, but that I was dumber than a sack of hammers.... and here's where that gets me into trouble.
I was messing with a connector on my Tascam 424, I popped the cover off and the ribbon cable came...
What??? Two projects going at once???? You betcha :) . Actually, I was kind of at a dead end on the 244 Portastudio because I didn't have schematics, but someone on here did, and now I think I can continue that project also.... but for now.... onto the 4 track tape player....
<backstory>...
Well, the ol Covid-19 has chased me into the house. My wife is on immuno-suppresents, so we are not going anywhere.....and I have a couple of projects in the room I would like to get to.
1. A Tascam 244 Portastudio and a
2. Tascam 134 Syncaset
First one up? the 244.
Backstory- Back when my...
Howdy to all again.
<backstory>I’ve got about 40 songs that I’ve written....not good songs....just songs.
Today I was trying to remember how to play a couple of em. So being an analog guy, I only had em on cassettes.
Sooo...I fired the ol Tascam 234 and began the search. I had labeled the tapes...
We interrupt this thread for a joke that has probably been seen a million times before.....
....we now return you to the intelligent conversation taking place.....
I know..... I know..... it’s not an Ampex, but for two years I have been looking for one. I love my 234, but was looking for a “normal” speed cassette for when I geek out and do cassette collaborations through the mail.
I’m just waiting until it shows up now..... Here’s the link...
Firstly..... I realize these posts are all kinds of disjointed.... but having just finished a month of recording, I thought I’d better ask the questions while they are still fresh in my mind......
I really got into using the compressor. For me it was for mostly trying to keep the same levels...
This past month I have been doing a bunch of recording. I really like my “sound” except for one thing. Right now I’m recording with two mics at the same time. One (Omni-directional dynamic) on my voice and a condenser mic on the guitar. After fiddling a while, I really like the...
I've been recording both voice and guitar at the same time on some of my recording. Yesterday I noticed the needle just bouncing randomly when I turned on the channels. In this case I was using two mics (one condenser, one dynamic) to record to only the guitar to a subgroup. It was the dynamic...
I'm wondering if its the tapes, but thought I ought to ask y'all about it. I have a Tascam 234 and am using new "high bias" tapes, but the drums are fading and getting louder on the track without me adjusting anything. I thought the head might be dirty, but I've clean and demagnitize them after...
