    Converting Garage into Studio

I moved house in 2021 and had to build a new studio in my garage - which is almost exactly the same as yours, except I have a flat roof.. You are right to build a room within a room, it's the only way to achieve good soundproofing. I used 9 x 3 floor joists for stud walls stuffed with loft...

Can I use 2 Tascam 16x08 to record 10 Channels Simultaneously?

This isn't exactly what you asked but if I were in your shoes I would use 8 channels with 5 on the drums then use the overhead mics to trigger samples for the missing tom hits. You could probably just paste them in; tom hits on those mics would probably be rare anyway.

    Sweeping for “problematic frequencies”

No, but it's the highest amongst others around it. If you cut the highest one and you don't hear an improvement, I think we would all assume at that point that the wrong frequency has been cut. In that case, try a different peak. Having said that, nine times out of ten the frequency I first go...

    Sweeping for “problematic frequencies”

Not sure what you mean. If there is a peak at a certain frequency, an SA will show it, regardless of the instrument that is playing it.

Where does the line go on plagiarism?

Most of the replies here are more or less correct but: You are only ever going to get into 'trouble' if someone takes you to court, and that will only happen if you make a shedload of money from your recording. Even then, you don't have to go to court, you can add the person's name as a...

    Sweeping for “problematic frequencies”

I never sweep, it's much easier and quicker to call up a spectrum analyser. You can immediately see the offending frequency and then deal with it using your preferred method of EQ.

    Pitchy Bass?

Most people will interpret 'pitchy' as meaning out of tune, or slightly deviating from the correct note. In that respect there isn't much in the way of pitchiness. However, throughout the track there are notes which are out of key (i.e. 'incorrect' notes). At one point the bass seems to be...

Stacking compression effects. Valid, or unforgivable crime against recording methods?

There are no rules. Make it sound as good as you can in any way that you can. In a word, yes.

    Plugin sample rate

Technically yes, but since the average pop song has a dynamic range of 12db, an extra 48db of dynamic range on top of the 96db that 16 bits provides is pointless.

    What am I Doing Wrong?

The microphone is capturing the sound you are making. At the time of recording (i.e. when we are actually playing) our hearing system naturally tends to block out the undesirable stuff. It's only on playback that our hearing finally relents and 'allows' us to hear the sound in its entirety. FWIW...

Help me diagnose vocal sibilance / distortion

It could be an idiosyncrasy of the vocalist - especially since you have not been able to recreate it.

Mixing Question: Problems getting healthy dynamics range, re: vocals

Tidal don't, but the others do, that is the point of loudness normalisation.

    Plugin sample rate

Depends what you mean by 'good'. "...for online distribution, go for 24 bit to capture the true essence of the dynamics in your music." That is incorrect, 24 bits captures no more dynamics than 16 bit.

    Does this mixer exist?

Behringer X18 or XR18 will do everything you are asking for. You need to mix from a laptop/computer or tablet of course, but at half the price of the Presonus it's worth considering.

    Drum Recording

Use the close mics to trigger replacement samples of themselves. Hi pass the overheads to use them for cymbals and hat.
