Honest Feedback on My Singing?

Male 18 here.


This is a sample of me singing Maroon 5's She Will Be Loved. I think the beginning's a bit flat.

I don't know where I am at all. I've never taken lessons, or sung in any school group or anything at all. I recently started singing at home and recording myself for fun.


Any specific feedback? Am I good enough to sing love songs to my girlfriend while playing the guitar? Do I just suck? Do I have potential to get good by taking lessons? Am I going to appear as a joke to a singing teacher?

I think you definitely have potential.

The only thing (and this is not meant to be negative) As a singer, I can tell that you are not utilizing your entire vocal mechanism IE you're singing from your throat. If you incorporated your head tones in that sample and brought in your diaphragm you'd no doubt knock it out of the park. Basically, if you're doing a bicep curl with a dumbbell, you lift it all the way up, and then all the way back down thus working with the entire muscle.

Pretty damned good start though.
