Practice - to reverb or not to reverb?

With a trace of reverb

"Raw"

When you practice songs or parts of songs, do you listen back to a processed version of your voice (e.g with reverb) or to your "raw" vocals?

If, both, which do pay more attention to?

I can think of pros and cons of each.

Processed.

1. The end product will be processed, anyway, so you'd be practising blind if you had no idea of the effect of processing.

2. You start to mimic your processed voice, which will improve your "raw" vocals. This is relatively easy, since imitating a voice similar to your own is the easiest of all.

3. I guess that it is practice for singing live, where you may be forced to listen to yourself live.

Unprocessed.

Mainly, this is more transparent in terms of assessing actual technique. Apart from things like timing and relative pitch, a cappella reveals the most about technique.

Can you think of any more pros and cons?

Somewhere in between. Try reducing the reverb at least 50%. You only want enough to where you can just hear it.
