---------- Update ----------

that's a great list of influences. Varied and eclectic - except I'd have also included some Brian Jonestown Massacre. but that's just me. ha

Good Lord, I couldn't come up with ten albums because my current favorite songs are always changing. Right now I'm stuck on all the Cameron Webb produced Motorhead albums. That guy worked magic with them. Also, Motohead's last abum, Bad Magic, is bloody wonderful.

PS: Motorhead's Aftershock album is a great sound to workout to if you like to lift.

For me, it really turns out to be a free for all. I may keep music as selections of neat stuff, but what rises to the surface as flotsam can be anything. I may do something and a week later I remember what that came from : )

Do I enter a recording with borrowed idea, not so much. Major influences, don't mean I have any desire to play that kind of music, or anything. Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no.

The Dead's Anthem to the Sun was a nice view into the jam
The First Zep was a Production WOW
Fleetwood Mac for white boys trying to play Blues. And where that took them
Pharoah Sanders for a five minute song and one other song on a album
Donovan as a complete artist
Sheffield Labs for the; "Wait? You mixed this live to the cutting lathe"?
The soundstage possible with a string quartet

So, it's more that kind of stuff, than a specific Purple Haze.

Nobody's posted here in four months, but I figured I'd chime in if that's ok.

I could list 100 albums if I wanted, but I'll have some fun and pick some big ones that really helped shape me.

Albums I grew up with that were highly influential:

1) Iron Maiden- "Somewhere In Time" (could pick any IM album really)
2) Rush- "Hold Your Fire" (simply incredible)
3) Metallica- "Ride The Lightning" (or Master Of Puppets" or "Kill 'Em All")
4) Pink Floyd- "The Wall"
5) Poison- "Look What The Cat Dragged In" (I know, I know, hell I was young)
6) The Hellecasters- "Return Of The Hellecasters" (just great guitar stuff)
7) Tom Petty- "Full Moon Fever"
8) GnR- "Appetite For Destruction" (hard not to include this one)
9) Phish- "Rift" (or "Farmhouse" or "Picture Of Nectar")
10) Boston- "Boston"
11) Zeppelin 4 (or 2, or "Physical Graffiti")
12) Queensryche- "Operation Mindcrime" ("Empire" was killer, too)
13) Eric Johnson- "Ah Via Musicom"
14) Beatles- "Rubber Soul" (any Beatles album actually)
15) AC/DC- "Back In Black" (also "Blow Up Your Video" has a special place in my heart)
16) Michael Jackson- "Thriller" (What can I say?)

And so many more... Dokken, Judas Priest, and Motley Crue could be honorable mentions. (Hey, I was a teen in the 80s)

These days:

1) Green Day- "American Idiot" (possibly favorite album of all time, masterpiece)
2) Green Day- "Tre" (another one of my favorites of all time)
3) Green Day- "Dookie"
4) Green Day- "Warning"
5) Green Day- "Revolution Radio" (new, I know, but blowing me away)
6) Green Day- "21st Century Breakdown"

I'll just stop now before I end up listing every Green Day album.
(I know, I'm an idiot) :guitar:

I'll have a go:

1) Bad Religion - Recipe for Hate
2) Faith No More - Angel Dust
3) Therapy? - Troublegum
4) Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies
5) Metallica - ...And Justice for All
6) Sugar - Copper Blue
7) Hüsker Dü - Zen Arcade
8) Quicksand - Slip
9) Nine Inch Nails - Broken
10) Failure - Fantastic Planet

At first I thought I was going to have trouble coming up with ten, but I ended up having to leave off a few!

These change now and then, but right now I'd say :

1. Revolver - The Beatles
2. Disraeli Gears - Cream
3. Machine Head - Deep Purple
4. Blow By Blow - Jeff Beck
5. Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs - Derek & The Dominoes
6. Texas Flood - SRV
7. Are You Experienced - Hendrix
8. Eat A Peach - The Allman Brothers Band
9. The Last Waltz - The Band
10. New Axes To Grind - The Hellecasters

No particular order, except Santana III has been #1 on my list since it came out

Are You Experienced (North American)
Dark Side of the Moon
Sgt. Pepper
The White Album
MEET THE BEATLES!
Santana III
Dreamboat Annie
Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin II
Toys In The Attic

Influences can run a gamut of reasons for the influence. Some are musical muses, others are for the songs, others still for the production values that affect my path as a producer/engineer. And there's the ones that simply make me feel right on any given moment of any given day.

Axis:Bold As Love

Abbey Road

Selling England By The Pound

Dark Side Of The Moon

Back In Black

Rock Of Life

Copperhead Road

Some Girls

Led Zeppelin I thru IV

Country Til I Die

Nuff said.... those of you who don't recognize some of these titles should look em up and listen.

Tommy and Pet Sounds are missing a.long with so many others

Some Girls is my favorite Stones album. It’s like they tried to do an album with a song in every style that was popular at the time.
