Motu's 24-I/O is a pretty safe bet for an interface if you need that many I/O's... Up to you if you want a console (maybe a summing mixer?). A rack full of RNP's is a wonderfully cost-effective way to get a whole bunch of great preamps without breaking the bank, throw in a few "more flavorful" units (API, Great River, some sort of 1073 clones, etc.).

Obviously, put the most you can into monitoring and PROPER room treatments (etc., etc., blah, blah).

What sort of budget are we talking about here anyway...? "A ton of money" seems to have some significantly different meanings that can trigger significantly different answers...

yeah some rack gear would be really awesome. i was thinking about maybe getting a board for the drums and getting some rack preamps for everything else. a focusrite isa whatever and maybe 2 1073 clones. but im definitely going to look into the stuff you said.

oh and theres some kind of deals that are going through with the person thats funding all this (im not sure what they are and i dont ask questions lol). but he told me that the budget is going to be somewhere between 5,000-15,000.

so im just getting an idea of what i can get for 5 grand and what i can for 15 grand lol.

That's we we've got in our main studio space at work and we've never had any problems with it whatsoever. just bare in mind that it's PCI so, and i may be wrong here as i've not looked at the newer iMacs, but you'd need a Mac Pro rather than just an iMac or Macbook to use it. If you don't have an PCI slot then the Motu 828 has 8 analogue in's and 16 digital in's so that coupled with some extra converters would do 24 in's and out's comfortably.
In the world of music there's no right or wrong, however there is "tried and tested" and "experimental"
