Soundproofing a closet on a $2000 budget?

Hi all,

I am looking to "soundproof" my closet on a $2000 budget.
I put the word sound proof in parentheses because I have absolutely no intention of recording in there, so the acoustics aren't an important characteristic for me.

My main concern is for privacy. I am trying to improve my singing so I need a lot of practice but I usually end up disturbing others in the house. Somebody is usually home so it's hard to set a consistent schedule to work on my voice without having an appropriate place to practice.

Are there any ways for me to significantly reduce the amount of sound that can escape from the closet on this budget? What kind of material would be ideal to buy?

If anybody has any recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

I can run a 100W Marshall into a 2x12 cab that's positioned inside a box made from 1" thick MDF and, while audible throughout the house, isn't very disturbing and not annoying for anyone outside.

So, if you line it with MDF, that might be enough (I'm guessing you're not as loud as a 100W Marshall!), and considerably less than $2000, presumably.
