Resilient Channel

What would be a more effective way of using resilient channel on a ceiling....

1. Attaching one side of the resilient channel directly to the ceiling beams and on the other side attach layers of sheetrock, mdf, etc... or

2. Sealing the Ceiling first with one layer of 3/4" mdf then attaching the resilient channel to the mdf instead of the beam like on the attached drawing.

Which way would you get better isolation or there is really no difference between the 2 ways.

Regards,

Luis.

If I'm not mistaking option 2. will make for a triple leaf system (ceiling-air-mdf-air-sheetrock) which reduces STC. You'll want a double leaf system.

(as always, wait for the gurus to confirm or not ;) )
