electrical and coax in the same run?

Is it OK to run electrical wire on top of coaxial cable for TV through the studs or will it create noise in the equipment plugged into the circuit it's next to?

Bad idea. It can induce interference on the coax. I'd keep it more like a foot away if you have to run parrallel and if you have to cross is, do it at 90 degree angles.

Another thing to watch for - if possible, don't cut electrical boxes into the wall - surface mounting gives better sound proofing. If you have to flush-mount, don't mount boxes back-to-back but offset them by at least 2 feet or one stud cavity. Smear the entire box outside with caulk so it's airtight. Sound can leak through incredibly small cracks and holes... Steve

What happens is can induce a 60 or 120 cycle hum modulation taht mixes with the RF and manifests itself as either a single bar ot two bars rolling slowly upwards through the screen. A foot may seem like over kill but if you have to drill new holes anyway, what the hell.
