what exacty is a bass trap? where does my studio need a bass trap...in the control room or in the recording room? Im ignorant about designing a studio....i have a pile of sheetrock and insulation ready to go, but i need to know some of these things before starting.

Bass/tube traps are beneficial in both tracking and control rooms for reducing low-end sloppiness, both what you hear through the monitors and what the mic hears.

Jimistone,

Do yourself a huge favor and put down the hammer. Go read and find out about things like bass traps , diffusion and absorbtion. Before you hang that sheetrock, find out about parallel walls and echo etc... There's a ton of info on this forum and others that you can learn fairly quickly, and it will, by far, be your best investment.
