Hey everyone, so I posted on here a little while ago asking for tips on how to improve my singing voice but my mic was pretty bad quality so there was a lot of background noise. So, I bought a new one and this recording is much clearer. Please critique, give me all your advice, I want to get better!

What mic is this new one? The quality still isn't great, but it could also be the mp3 encoding or similar.

In terms of your voice, from what I can hear it sounds like you need to project your voice more, and at the end you go a bit sharp.
Overall I reckon regular singing lessons would be a really good idea for you, they make a huge difference teaching you how to control your breathing, and build up your muscles etc.
Keep going with it though, there's definitely potential.

Thanks for the advice! I've been looking into lessons, but I'm nervous about singing in front of people so I'm trying to train myself a bit at home first

So what is your new microphone and what did you have previous to it?

Any mic you buy will be perfectly suited to your needs, until you use it long enough to learn that it's not.

Sounds good - as said above you go sharp towards the end. I do that when I push too hard so that may be why. Overall though I think it sounds great. You never have to sing in front of people - just post on the internet lol...

moresound: before i was just using the mic in my laptop, which is a dell. now i have the samson go mic. i was in a bathroom because the acoustics were good, but it ended up making the recording sound unclear on the mic :/

ido1957: thank you! do you have any advice to avoid going sharp? just strain less?

Hey there amk - So let me start by saying I'm pleasantly surprised. I never saw your first thread, but I usually go into these expecting the worse, but that is definitely not the case here. You have a great voice. Right now it is only good though. Why is that? First, it almost sounds like you have a bit of a cold when you did this like there were some sniffles in there. With that aside, I think it's good right now because you have the raw talent, but you need to be taught how to use it properly and how to take it to the next level. Take lessons! I cannot stress enough how much they can help you. MANY people try and sing but cannot and MANY people go take lessons to try and make their bad voice into a great one (not going to happen without studio magic). You on the other hand have been give the raw talent to sing. Like a diamond pulled out of the ground, the potential is there but it needs to be given the right cut, polished, etc. Getting vocal lessons will teach you proper techniques to give you more control of your voice (which will help in regards to the sharp comments above), proper breathing, warm-ups, projecting your voice better, etc. I've been a singer in "rock" bands for a long time and didn't think I needed vocal lessons/coaching. I went to a few sessions and the things I learned helped me TONS. You owe it to your voice! Keep in touch, I'll be curious to hear how you progress.

hi dogmaticvox, thank you for the advice! I am kind of chronically congested during the winter so that may be why i sound like that... ive been told before to get lessons but ive always been skeptical about whether or not i actually had anything to work with. however after reading everyones comments i think i may just take the leap this summer!

Lessons will help you build confidence too.
