What's the right way to record a drum machine in stereo?

I have a question about Recording a drum machine track in reference to it coming out in stereo.

If I plug the left and right rca outputs into a single stereo 1/4" adaptor and plug it into track one on my Fostex MR-8 will I have true stereo drums?

Or do I have to plug both the right and left rca outs into mono 1/4" adaptors and plug both of them into tracks one and two to get true stereo drums?

Please let me know how to go about this.

You won't get a stereo signal out of a mono channel. You will need 2 RCA => 1/4 " adaptors to get stereo drums. If number of tracks is an issue, I'd suggest using mono drums, possibly panning slightly to one side, and using FX send/return to send reverbed track one to the other side of the stereo field. This would give you some depth.
