What's The Right Recording Level

HI FRIENDZ,

I'VE BEEN RECORDING FOR SOMETIME NOW BUT I STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT WAT THE RIGHT RECORDING LEVEL SHOULD BE. I USUALLY END UP TAKING A LEVEL BETWEEN -7.0 TO -3.0 dB AND I MOSTLY HAVE TO NORMALISE THE RECORDED TRACK. ANY SUGGESTIONS???? I KNOW CLIPPING HAS TO BE AVOIDED. MY GUITAR EFFECTS CONSOLE GIVES OUT STANDARD +4 db OUTPUT BUT I STILL DONT GET THAT LEVEL ON THE ECHO CONSOLE (I'M USING THE ECHO MIA MIDI WHICH HAS BALANCED INPUTS). WHAT I SOMETIMES GET IS BELOW -7.0 db ON CLEAN PATCHES. ANY ADVICE GUYS?????

THANKS

i don't understand why people type all in caps...

are you a leo, do you need the attention or something?

then again i like to type all small, and put dot dot dots all over the place for no reason at all...sooo, yeah...

Sorry For The Caps

Dear Friendz,

I'm extremely sorry if the caps have offended you people. I wasn't aware that caps are taken for shouting. I just type on without noticing. Sorry and thanks for the help.

chow!
