What are some nice studio quality multitrack recorders to record a home demo?

I'm sick of the twangy sound of my cheap little tascam 4 track. I need a nice studio quality sound with a lot of balls.

Note: I'm using direct input because I cant mic my amp since I live in an apartment. It would be way too loud.

'Studio quality' - what's your budget? $100,000? $200,000?

Consider going the computer recording route, rather than a stand-alone recorder.

Anything that records 24bit will potentially be "studio quality". It's up to you to get as much out of what you have as you can.

You might be disappointed to find that after buying your "studio quality" machine, your tracks still sound "twangy", if you keep recording direct.

Getting a good sound and punch is more reliant on what and how you're recording. Not so much what you're recording into.
