Exactly. The guitars are there to serve the songs, not the ego. Once you're done recording your tracks, you have to take the guitar player hat off and put the engineer/producer/songwriter hat on.

Who cares what genre it is? Don't pigeon hole yourself. Make great music.

Finish up the song and post it in the MP3 Clinic. You can get some feedback on the complete mix and song.
 
That's good bass tone. Maybe a little scooped, but nothing you can't work with. In my opinion, you don't have a bass problem. You have a guitar problem. Turn that guitar down so it sits in the mix. That might solve your issues right there. If you're still not hearing enough bass, then EQ the guitar--not the bass. High pass the guitar, or notch out the frequencies that are masking your bass.
