have a question but i didn't know where to put it! Hope it's the right thread....anyway, today i bought myself a SM57 Mic that has no cable included(it's not wireless but i didn't get the cable with the mic) and before I had a mic for 10$ and it had a cable that fitted my soundcard (1'4 or sth :P) so i just connected the mic to my PC and recorded- and it sounded good!
As some of you know, SM57 comes without cable (as i mentioned) and I want to know which cable should i buy that i could directly connect the SM57 to my soundcard! Is preamp really needed? (i'm asking this b'coz my previous mic worked fine without it)
Thanks and sry for bad english!

Gad, I love it when people jump right into it without a clue! Was always the best way for me to learn, anyways. :p

Here's your cable:

Here's a pre-amp:

Here's a good soundcard:

Of course, you *can* run a signal from your pre-amp to your direct input jack on your consumer soundcard, but I'm guessing that the results won't be as good as you'd like. But at very least, I can answer this:

YES, most definitely you'll need a pre-amp.
