I love the NT2-a, but from all accounts the C214 is a better mic. From what I've read, the C214 is essentially a C414 (a standard) without all the polar options and stuff. If you like having polarity options and high pass filters on the mic, the NT2-a would be the way to go. But otherwise, the C214 may be the way to go.

I have a couple of 414's and find them to be fairly neutral and unhyped sounding. The 214 is supposed to be a stripped down version of a 414 i think. If you want a mic with an upper mid boost, (but possibly harsh sounding on some voices) the AT 4033 might work for you. I have no experience with the Rode.
