Recording di of guitar amp

I basically want to record my amp with an sm57 but also take the recorded the di signal from the amp too. I plan to use effects on this di signal to sculpt a different sound altogether and blend it back in with the miked track.

My amp is a fender deville. Do I just plug a jack from the out of the amp to a line in?

:/

Thanks

There are different 'Deville' amps, but the only output on them is a speaker jack - and most likely if you plug something into it, it cuts off the internal speaker.

To do what you want, you need to split your guitar's incoming signal, sending it to the amp, and to your audio interface. I use a Radial PZPre (also has live uses).

Does it have the preamp output? I bet you could run that straight to a line input on your interface. It would lack the contribution of the power amp and cabinet, leaving you something to work with.

Yeah you can just run the preamp out to a line input.

It's going to sound pretty bad (fuzzy) though unless your tracking clean guitar.
