The path.....

Ok so I am getting to the point where having only 4 tracks of simultaneous recording on my VS880Vx is not enough.

Although I love the unit, I am trying to get into a more flexible full 8-track set up.

I have a possible opportunity to aquire a VSR880HD.
This would be perfect as its rackmountable, 8 trk simultaneous 24bit recording, virtual tracks, and I am familiar with the Roland system....basically.
The drawbacks being that the Drive is only so big so it must be dumped periodically for back up.

There is also a DA-88 available cheap.
Workhorse of the pro and semi pro industry in recording and post production. Uses Hi8 format.....ADAT compatable.
But only 16 bit and its still a tape medium.

Now my question is........the VSR880CD seems like a much more flexible option...

....but......

Why isnt the VSR880HD more of an industry standard?????
Are the 16 bit converters in the DA-88 better than the 24 bit converters of the VSR880HD?????

Is there something I am missing???

I am NOT a professional in the recording industry, just a hobbiest.
But I do want to upgrade to the best quality I can afford in a portable format.

Any thoughts???
