Panning When Mixing Down To Stereo

I just wanted to know if it is necessary to dedicate the PAN to a certain side when mixing down to stereo. I have a TD-4 from Tascam and I have already recorded the tracks I want. For the mastering process, I would like my vocals to stay in between and have my guitar leads shift from side to side occasionally. How would I accomplish this?

Flying Brian:

I'm assuming the TD-4 is a four track, cassette tape? If each channel has a pan knob, it's easy to move from left to right merely by moving the knob to the left or to the right at the appropriate time as it fits into your arrangement/creation.

Run your mix and just turn up one track, say the voice track. As it plays move the pan knob left/right and listen for the results either in your headphones or from the monitors. [Listening to the monitors will give you a better cut of what will be on the tape when you mix it down. After doing this with your tracks, I think you'll get the drift.

Must leave now; Kato is ready to fight crime.
