Panning a 5 Piece drum kit

LemonTree

Suck 'em and see!
Any suggestions on how a 5 piece kit should be panned in the stereo field? I've gone with this below and it seems to sit ok with all the guitars and stuff in, just wondering if anything is looking out of place.....

Kick: L5

Snare: straight down the middle

HiTom: R4

LoTom: L5

FlrTom: L18

Hats: R6

Crash: R18

Ride: L10

Crash: L14

Does that look abnormal? I'm new at this :)

If it works for you then there's nothing wrong with it. The more traditional approach of sending the Kick, Snare and Hi-Hats down the middle simply came about because of the nature of vinyl records. If you're planning on releasing any of your material in that medium you might want to shove loud and bottom heavy instruments to the centre. But for tape, CD, MP3, etc that arrangement should be fine

Are you talking about a real, recorded drum kit, or about programmed stuff? I'm just asking because you're panning the crashes and the ride separately.

If you've recorded real drums, take the overheads (if you recorded in stereo), and listen for the images of the other components: Like, where does the snare come from, where are the hihats, etc.
Then pan accordingly.

And what are those numbers? Kick L5? 5 on a scale from 1 to how much?
