i'm not sure. it doesn't really sound like a vocal effect that was added before it entered the signal chain. the early version of the song that was leaked from the studio last year reveals that the vocals were once clear and untouched. it's probably just some cheap effect that you can easily find in programs like cool edit.
one thing is for sure: it's not a carton of cigarettes.....thom yorke doesn't smoke.
