Is mixing board necessary?

I am only interested in recording a couple of acoustic guitar and a couple of vocal tracks on my songs. I am running an Oktava MK 319 mic, through a presonus preamp, a fmr rnc 1773 compressor, alesis miniverb into a fostex mr 8 digital recorder. I can mix(limited) and master and convert to wav files to send to my pc.

Will using a mixer be of benefit to me or a waste of money do to only needing a clean sound comprised of only vocals and acoustics. I was thinking about a Mackie 1202 pro.

I think in your case getting a mixer will be a waste of money. If you were recording a large number of tracks then you might benefit from better summing on a good board as opposed to mixing everything in the pc.

You would probably need a board better than Mackie to take advantage of better summing as well.
