microphone / interface problems

Q: working on project in logic express 8 + garageband

cannot seem to get microphone to work
switched audio/midi preference to m-audio interface
phantom power on
can't pick up anything

basic set up:
Audio Technica microphone (at2035)
interface (M-Audio Profire 610)
Macbook Pro with Logic Express 8 + Garageband
Glyph's Studio mini external hard drive
 
Have you had it working before?
Have you tried another mike?
Have you tried another lead?
Is the Profire showing that it has synched?
Can you play back anything through the Profire?
 
I just bought the Audio Technica microphone (at2035) brand new
had the interface (M-Audio Profire 610) for a while
used basic dynamic microphone (akg d2200s) with poor results, works but vocals are really low
I only need basic mobile vocal recording set up on the cheap with quality as good as I can get
not an expert by no means just looking to record vocals before professional mix/mastering

I appreciate your assistance
 
Low volume on a dynamic, assuming you've the gain up I'm gonna go with boulder sound guy, is it an xlr-xlr cable?
