M AudioFast Track and Pro Tools

Hi,
I am using M AudioFast Track and Pro Tools. When I try to record vocals I get a horrible distorted sound instead - like a Dalek. (No, my voice doesn't normally sound like that) Anyone had the same problem?

You might be clipping while recording. Does the red "clip" indicator light up on your MobilePre when you record something? If so, try turning the gain knob down a bit :D
 
Is this a new problem? Has the setup worked before?

I have had glitches in PT that caused weird distorted kinds of sounds.
The mbox did it all the time, but restarting usually fixed it, and oddly, toggling the clock settings fixed it too sometimes.

If you're just peaking, gtrplyr is right.
 
Thanks for the replies. It is not clipping that cause the problem as the noise is there with faders all the way down. It appears to work fine now and again but for some reason goes wrong again. I will just have to keep at it!
