little amp=big noise?

i'm just full of questions today. ok, i've heard a great way to record a guitar trak (i use a tascam 424) is to get the smallest amp you can find, drop it in a shoe box, drop a mic in the same shoe box, close it and record. Does this really work?

Best way to find out (read: the most honest response, lowest cost) is to just do it! If it's worthwhile to do for real, it's good enough to just try it. That POD from line 6 sure gives that stuff a run for the money. Especially if you need to keep the dBs down to avoid a visit from the local gendarmes.
