how do you place/aim your vocal mic

So i'm doing vocals. I put my Studio Projects C1 right in front of the singer/rapper's face. Then my panty-hoes P stopped right in front of that (an inch or so). Then, i say stay about 2 inches ish from the pop filter (my mother's pantyhose). haha.

Is that cool, would you say?

OR should I be kinda tilting it from up high, and telling the vocalist to sing up to the mic...as i've seen done before around at different studios...

Sometimes you can go offset to get off axsis for tone changes or to get away from pop blasts. But going up higher might encourage some singers to tilt up which might make for a strained posture.
Yeah?:)

I usually put the diaphragm about nose height and pointed down towards the mouth. I tell the vocalist to sing straight ahead. That way they are not singing directly into the diaphragm.

Do you find that that gives you a better sound then singing directly to the mic?

You should defintitely try having the singer actually wear the panyhose.

In this day and age, homosexuality is perfectly acceptable . . . just as panyhose or other exotic fetish's. Tell you talent to be comfortable, free, open, and expressive. And don't be ashamed!

Yes.

And Harvey passed along a good tip about taping a pencil vertically up the center of the face of the diaphragm to help with plosives.

It would be cool if it was your girlfirend's, or your lover's, or your paid escort's pantyhose... but your MOTHER'S?????????????

Naw - that just isn't cool.....

but if he had ripped em off his mom and maybe wore em a few times himself.... that would put a new twist on things....

nahh, these guys just like the opportunity for a little fun and humor mixed with valuable information.

i dont know whether to laugh or cry...

ha.

i'll laugh.

but aight, i'll try a little tilt in the future - espeicially for rap/hip hop vox, lots of shit goin on in those eh?

usually, I put the mic at nose level and point down to the mouth... but I put the pop filter level so that the vocalist doesn't tilt up.

but if its for one of those throaty, raspy love ballads, i'll put the mic at chin level and point up. i've done that to great effect for several female vocals, but only once for a male vocalist.

I use this same technique quite often.
