just bought a samson usb mic with a headset input for monitoring, my headphnes have a built in mic, will that override the actual microphone cause the quality sounds like shit.

You should be able to choose the default input device and the default playback device...having said that, you can play speakers and headphones at the same time, so without trying it, it would be tough to say 100% certain. Go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, Manage Audio Devices. Choose your default output device. Hit the Recording tab and pick your default Input device. Let us know if it fails.

If you are plugging your headset into the Samson, the headset mic will not be activated - but the plug may not be the correct one, either - is it 3 conducxtor or 4 conductor? The Samson will be expecting a 3 conductor stereo plug, not a 3 conductor earphone + mic plug or a 4 conductor stereo earphone + mic plug. If you plug your headset into the computer's jacks, then follow BrokenH's instructions to select the Samson as your audio input device and the headset as yoru audio output device - this may be in the 'options' menu of a DAW, if you are using one.
