glyn johns mic placement?

I tried this this past weekend. I used some MXL 990s for the overheads.

It was a good sound I don't think the 990s worked good but this wasn't for a client and I had never tried them as an overhead so it was worth a shot. It takes a bit of work getting the overheads so that everything is centered and I personally prefer the kick mic inside (I like it a little more clicky than you generally get outside.

it really brought the toms out in a good way and kept a good perspective on the kit as a whole. The cymbals seemed more subdued than with x/y or a modified spaced pair overhead setup.
