flute quartet

my studio is a single large room. i must record a flute quartet performing pieces that must be played in an ensemble setting (live, all four parts at once so they can see each other as they do accelerandos and ritards, etc). since the pieces are difficult, i need to multitrack to allow for punch-in corrections. how can i acheive adequate isolation of up to four live acoustic instruments at a time in my studio? how would they do this in a real studio?

Hey Again Jnorman:

I'm going to guess on the flute foursome. If the music is difficult, as you state, I don't know how much you could punch in and punch out without noticeable damage to the desired mix?

If all of the talent must play at the same time, I might record them on a couple of tracks so I could play with left/right stuff on the mix.

I don't know how you can isolate a foursome if they must play looking at one another and the music?
