drum machine vs. PC

for laying down drum tracks (that is, no drummer) should i purchase a drum machine or should get drum tracks by buying software for the PC? which option is better and which is cheaper? keep in mind my computer has a crappy sound card so i'd need to get one.

Most drum machines I've heard have better drum sounds than comparably priced synths in modules or ROM on a wavetable synth in a soundcard. But ease of programming is where the PC will outshine the competition. Like Deion sez: $15 or $20 million? I want both.
