Big sound/Little amp

It's not rattling or anything, but I also can't take it off without some major cabinet surgery.

I'm using a Shure PG48(?) with the basket off atm, but I've also tried every mic and every combination of mics from a CAD2 drum mic kit and my random assortment of junk I've picked up over the years
 
I don't see how you'd get too much room with a dynamic cardioid right up on the grill of a loud amp. You got something goofy going on. Post some sound clips. Do it now.
 
Can't "do it now." The mid-rare ribeyes take precedence atm, and we're busy painting til Saturday morn, at the earliest.

I may be able to post some practice tracks that I kinda don't hate on Saturday. We'll see.
