Hi buddies

im recording a punk band and we are planning to use a direct box and a condenser mic at the same time to record the bass
but i wonder if it's dangerous to fuck up the condenser mic, since its so sensitive. Some of them have a special filter for close miking

but the one we are using don't have that filter, is it a matter of Gain or can it really be dangerous for the mic ??

peace !

Most should be fine...you're not going to be recording at arena stage levels...and it if is too loud and making the mic distort, use the PAD on the mic if it has one.

The CAD E100 2 mic is great for that. I use it for heavy metal bands for vocals and guitars. Does a great job. Just don't drop the damn thing or its over ;)

you should be fine with most ldc condensors as miro says use the pad if needed.
If your after a punk sound i wouldnt use sm57 or that hyped top end cad 100
i'd go for something with a better bass response and a cardiod pattern.

Which LDC? You should be able to look up the specs and see what the max SPL is for it. It's always a good idea to have a cheapy meter that can measure SPL just to be safe.

But you should be fine.
