Will Adobe Audition work well with my mixer?

I recently recieved an Alesis Multimix 8. I have been using the ableton live 7 (free version) that came with the mixer. However, I think I am going to upgrade to some real deal software.

Has anyone used Adobe Audition? Does it work with Alesis? I really know close to nothing about software/hardware conflicts so any insight would be great.
 
In college, we had a few MultiMix 8's and MultiMix 12's connected to different computers. They worked just fine.

I should mention that these were the USB versions and not the FireWire versions (although, it shouldn't really matter which one you use...)
