I'm just trying to figure out how to record using MIDI.
I've got a Casio keyboard and Sonar LE recording software, and a connector to run 5-pin connectors from the keyboard to the USB on my laptop. And I can get as far as making the recording level meter jump to indicate that it's getting the signal from the keyboard when I play a note.
But I can't figure out how to get any sound going. The software has a place for "instruments" but there's nothing there. I downloaded some free virtual instruments that are in zip files, but I don't know how to get them from my desktop into the Sonar program -- or if there's something else I should do.
When I try to open those zip files, they show up as Audacity files (I have Audacity on my computer but haven't been using it lately) and it tells me it can't open the file unless I got to Import Raw. When I do that, it copies in a line of pure noise.
Can somebody help me?
