Turning powered mixing desk into recording device

Currently I have a powered Yamaha mixing desk, microphones etc., essentially all the gear I need to play live. I want to know what equipment I can add to this desk so as to have a home recording studio. What recording equipment can I add to this desk so I can utilise its twelve track capacity. If I buy a four track am I essentially by passinf the mixing desk? My theory is that if I add a multi track recorder to the outputs from this desk have I in effect got a twelve track recorder? Any advice would be invaluable.

I seriously doubt that your mixer has 12 outputs...ff That is what you are saying.

It has 12 inputs and if you are lucky 4 outs?
any multitrack would work with your mixer. Cassettes the cheapest and lowest quality, then Minidisc, stand alone digital...ADAT etc. Since you are new to this, don't spend all your money until you read a lot more!
This website has all the info you need!....

Just because you have a mixer, don't limit your decisions to only what you think you can use it with. Read, Read, Read....

Sincerely;

Dom Franco
