Transferring 4 track tape recordings to digital

You may want to keep a ear open for alignment/quality issues and reach some understanding before you take the job

It will stop nagging you to register it when you boot up the program

LOL, sometimes that's money well spent :D
.

Plus, it keeps us honest. We don't like theft at this site, not even of software. Reaper is great and so much better at the task than GarageBand. Try it for your purposes, if you like, please be sure to pony up the money for the license.
Cheers. :)

If you compress/limit during transfer you will need a deditated 4-channel compresser and the ability to lock them togethr so that every track is compressed equally at the same time, or you will destroy the image.

Oh - and make sure that all four inputs are set to identical levels - IE: set the level according to the loudest level on the loudest track and then set the other three to idectical input levels - otherwise you will destroy the image.

If it's quadraphonic, yes. If it's stereo pairs then they should be treated in pairs (identical levels and linked dynamics). If it's four individual mono tracks meant to be mixed later then don't link dynamics at all.

To the OP I'll repeat, don't bother with dynamics on the way in. And I say that as someone who digitizes analog sources and who has a compressor that could link four channels. You can do a better job ITB.
