Stereo or Mono for guitar and bass tracks?

I'm recording electric guitar by micing the amplifier. (I'm getting a very good tone). The mic is 1/4", with a 1/8" stereo adapter on it. But the mic is mono, right? How can I tell if the mic is mono or stereo? If it's stereo, should I set the recording monitors (in Acid ph1) to stereo or leave them in mono?

How can I get a stereo mix? When I take the wave file into Sound Forge XP and mix to stereo file, it looks like it just takes the file and copies the same thing into each channel.

It's a safe bet the mic is mono. If you want to record stereo you will need 2 microphones and a way of sending these 2 signals to left/right input of your soundcard. A small mixer and a bunch of adapters would do this.

With some multitracking software, you could record another track of guitar and pan them left and right to get a stereo sound. Try N-Track (check out the forum on this BBS), it's a popular multitracker and it's shareware.
