Parametric EQ?

I'm wondering what the difference between EQ's....I have read on here about parametric EQs and one post mentioned 31 band EQs are usually not used for recording.....I have'nt found a reference yet so any help is appreciated....
Of course, as a newbie, I'll be looking for a low end EQ so I dont know if I should just go without until I can afford a decent one. How much does a decent EQ cost?

Thanks

Michael

You probably have parametric EQ if you have a mixer.

Are you recording to a computer? If so, there is parametric EQ in most software programs too.

A parametric EQ will give you the option of selecting a given frequency with one "pot", then boosting or cutting it with another.

A graphic EQ splits the frequencies up onto individual sliders, and lets you boost or cut each frequency.

You probly don't need either right now. There are other more inportant things to get first.
