Is my laptop good enough.

I love Apple and would really enjoy a new Mac Book Pro, but Don't have a ton of starting capital. I have a lenovo Edge 2 currently that has a i5-6200cu 2.30 GHz and 8GB ram. it has a 1TB 5200rpms hard drive. Would this laptop I have now work well for music production? I am a folk style singer-songwriter. I am just trying to decide if I should buy a new mac and save up for gear, or use this computer and get a starter recording package. Thanks a ton!

For what you would be doing........that laptop will be fine. Look for an audio interface that comes with a DAW and maybe a mic package.....cables.......stand......etc. You'll want monitors as well. Some of the "complete recording" packages are priced well and would be a good entry point for you..............and may be all you'd ever want. Have fun and good luck!!

Should be just fine.
The weak link is probably the hard drive, if you meant 5400RPM.
If it's 7200, it's less likely to be a problem.

For folk singer songwriter stuff it's not likely to be an issue anyway.
