Asi i will probably only record one thing at a time e.g) guitar(acoustic&electric), vocals or bass. using an emu 0404 would a mixer or a two channel pre amp be the best bet?

Maybe im completely wrong, i apologise if i am, but the emu 0404 has the ability two take two channels of audio at the same time. Is this correct?

so if the preamp option comess out on top...what do you recommend?

thanks in advance

I would opt for a preamp unless you plan on playing with others, micing a drum kit, or prefer a mixer over a patchbay for routing effects.

As far as preamps, the FMR RNP and the DMP3 get favorable reviews around here for budget preamps under $500.

You could buy THREE DMP3's for $500. I've never owned one but I trust the judgement of my fellow homerecording.com members who say they're the titty's nipple...
