Hi there,
I'm a newbie to home recording and have recently purchased some equipment to record spoken word (in particular podcasts). I'm using a Zoom H4n to record on but I'm wondering if I've got the right mics.
I was sold two se3 condenser microphones (end of line so going cheap) but I'm not sure if they are the best thing to use. You can view the product here
I've used the mics in a few indoor locations (which are mostly quiet) and while the se3's record a nice clean sound of the speaker they are also unbelievably sensitive to any noise around them. I can hear doors closing in rooms next to me, footsteps above as well as any ambient noise in the room. They even picked up a police siren wailing outside.
When I record, the mics are always on a table in front of the speaker, about 12" from the mouth, and placed on stands with shock mounts.
Should I have a different type of mic or is there something I can do with the mics I have. Most locations I record in are offices so I'm expecting some noise but these things are hyper-sensitive.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Dan
