Interface and monitor volume levels

I have a Line 6 UX-1 with a set of M-Audio Stuiophile AV-40`s hooked up, The UX-1 has an volume output knob which sets the level for the monitors and headphones however the monitors also have a volume output knob.

The problem is dont know how high to turn each one?? Do I turn up the UX-1s output all the way up and use the AV-40s knob to control the listening level??

I am a bit confused as you can tell

Please help
 
Good question,
Amplifiers run best at around 80% of their full. (Just a rule of thumb, high end units perform best at 100%, they are made that way. I suggest you set the monitor volume about 80% of full and then use the UX-1 for actual control.
