Hey yall, this is what I have so far. Mics: SM57, KSM32, Rode NT1. Preamp: Presounus BlueTube. Comperssor: Prosunus BlueMax. Soundcard: Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Monitors: My Aiwa little Home System. Midi Keyboard. Guitars/Amps: Fender Amercian Standard, Marshall DSL401 Tube, Warick Corvette Standard Bass, Nemisis (By Eden) Bass Amp, Tacoma Acoustic. And that is just about it, I know I need to get a better soundcard or monitors what would yall get first one that? And also how do you think this setup would do as it is right now? Also out of Sonar/Vegas/Cubase what would you say is the "best" and easist to use right now? Price not being a factor there. Best with Midi AND Audio, I am guessing Sonar, but just let me know:) And any other advise would be awesome.

First Vegas Is the easiest program and the best.
Depending on the ammount of inputs you need the m-audio audiophile is good for 2 tracks, the darla is good for 8.
A good set of monitors and a reference amp is in order too.

You should also look at the M-Audio soundcards (Delta 44, Delta 66).

Every review of every sequencing program is good (Logic, Sonar, Cubase). I don't think you can go wrong there. The problem with Vegas is it doesn't do MIDI. So if you do MIDI I don't recommend it--although I have the Lite version and like it for audio.

You might also look at a good audio editor like Soundforge or Wavelab. I find Soundforge indispensible.

Price not being a factor, I'd go with protools/Digi 001. It's hardware and software included and it is VERY easy to use.

Before I got the digi 001 I had the lexicon core2 card. (it's $150 now) 4 in's 8 out's...Great card...d/a converters are amazing. I used it with cool edit, cubase, logic, ntrack and a bit of cakewalk. Then I saw my friends protools system.

Enough said.

Thats what I thought

Hey Executivos,

Thats exactly what I thought when I saw the demo video. I havn't gone Digi yet though. I'm surprised the majority of home recording "bands" don't go the pro tools way. Looking around here, I have found people tend to like to pick and choose more then buy a all-in-one package. But then its an endless rattle of compatability issues as opposed to hardware and soft wear all designed for an operating system.

Is your protools setup really a head above the componant DAW system?

I don't want to put down other systems too much. I have just found that protools is really easy to use, but at the same time VERY professional. The protools le stuff that you record can easily be taken to any tdm protools environment and even to mac, without having to convert anything. (Any DAW can do this via importing wavs, but you usually need to make a new session and a new mix) This whole thing means you can record your drums at a pro studio and then track everything else at home or vice versa.

If you need help setting it up (if you get it) it's not hard to do...just let me know or checkout the bbs on digidesign's website. If you get the system email me and I'll hook you up with the GOOD plugins :) With those....there is no comparison.

I'm kinda suprised, it seems that not too many people on here are into protools. Of couse a lot aren't into daw's either but it's all good.

Now that I look back I can't beleive I ever considered anything else. I almost bought the delta 10/10 so many times. Good luck!

I would say go the Vegas or Sonar route. Like c7sus said, it depends on your OS (Sonar). But Vegas is a little easier to use (like D_H200, said), especially if you use Acid and Sound forge.

Try the demo versions of both to see which one you like better.

Vegas...http://www.sonicfoundry.com

You'll also need DirectX 8

The Delta soundcards are great too... http://www.midiman.net

Yeh I have really thought about getting the Digi001, and the reason I havent is because I cant seem to find a good place for plugins. Because it doesnt use Direct X right? FLAME ON, the main reason I would want to go with a non 001 system is because I have tons and tons of Direct X plug's. Unless you know a good place to "get" plugs for the Pro Tools LE setup?

Yeah I know a good place. It doesn't use direct x at this time, and that was reason I was reluctant. The rtas plugins that are "available" are MUCH better than any direct x plugins I've found.

Email me if you get digi001
