Guitar(Audio) Tracks won't playback in time

I tried using Cool Pro, Cakewalk demo, N track demo, and all with the same results:
I can play 1 guitar track down fine using a mixer to my HP soundcard. When I play a second guitar track over it, and play it back, the both are out of time. I tried adjusting the buffer, but to no avail.

I have a Pentium 300mhz with a 4 gig drive. The Darla diagnostics said I was fine. What am I missing??? I'm so frustrated I'm about to go standalone like a Fostex or Tascam.
 
Can you be more specific about all of the equipment you are using. How much out of sync are you?what is your exact proceedure in taking your tracks down.I'll try to help if I can.
