From the ground up..

I'm looking to starting a studio in my spare room. I've got a Dell Inspiron laptop with 60 G.

I've got amps, guitars, and I bought Sonar 4 Producer edition.
I have a M Audio Fast Track for my interface, but the gain on the it way too low, and I'm unhappy with it.

I now have 800$ to spend. I will buy a Shure SM57, and monitors..(although unclear which kind).

Does anyone have suggestions on where to go from here?

What will you be recording?

$800, I would get either the presonus firebox ($599) and upgrade to Cubase SE ($199)...OR I'd get the M-Audio Firewire 1814 ($499) and buy M_powered Protools ($250).

What's the specs on the Dell?

Specs:

Intel® Celeron® M Processor 360 (1.40 GHz/1MB Cache/400MHz FSB)

512 MB RAM

It doesn't have a firewire slot...does that mean I'll have to go USB?
