Free Bass Guitar VSTs?

I've been struggling to get a decent bass guitar sound and I'm looking to spend basically nothing! Is there any decent free bass vsts out there? I'm using FLStudio and, while Slayer can do bass, I'm don't really like it's sound.

Thanks in advance

I end up recording live bass on my tracks... but during the arrangement stages I use Spectrasonics Trilogy (approx £150). It's the only thing that even sounds close that I've tried. I sling it through Amplitube and it sounds great (although I love the sound of a musician over midi trigger anyday!).

A cheaper option would be a sampler (you can get free ones) and samples (also can be found free at varying levels of ok).

Out of interest was it a 'real' bass sound you were after or something synthier??

Thanks for the response.

It's a real bass sound I'm looking for.

Would you know anywhere I could get those free samples?

Thanks

I got some a while ago from Computer Music magazine... although they do tend to lean towards artificial sound styles now... Not too sure. I'll google it and post links once I've found some.

Do a Google search for "free vst" there are too many for me to post here. There is free stuff all over the web. Search "free plugins" too.

Also there are people on Ebay selling what are actually free files but what they have done is collected hundreds of free plugins, VST's, synths and sll sorts of stuff and put them on one disc and they sell it for about $15. Sure you can get the stuff free too, but to me it's worth the small amount of money for the convenience. Many of these discs are sorted and archived into folders by file types as well. They also include many free tools on them that work very well, and about as well as anything else for a newbie that can't yet use any advanced features of the expensive stuff. There are free 32 track studios, etc. Everything that you need to create and record music, and have it sound good too can be had for free on the web. Legally. Search on Ebay for "plugins" or vst and limit the search to items under $20 or so and you will find some. They are not to be confused with "warez" etc. these are legal shareware or freeware files.

That could be one, the auction does not really describe it well. At that price, it probably is. Write and ask them if you are not sure. I bought a couple of discs on Ebay comprised of free stuff and was happy. On one of them, the guy obviously worked very hard gathering programs and making a professional, sortable disc with nice menus and descriptions of -every- one of thousands of programs and plugins. Most were installable from the disc, others had good links, and it was certainly worth what I paid for it. I bought another one that was filled with articles and tutorials on thousands of subjects that deal with home recording, and also had programs, loops, etc. Both of these were excellent resources. I don't recall the specific auctions but just keep looking.

Here are some good resources on the web for free, legal dl's including plugins.
I found all of these in about fifteen minutes of Google searching and all of them are interesting and filled with stuff - I haven't even begun to check out everything that is available to be downloaded for free. There is so much stuff that I read and fully check out anything that I might download before I get it - I don't want to fill my drive with junk because that's out there as well. There are many, many more resources besides these, these are just a few of the better ones that I found. You can find many more good resources simply by checking out the links pages on these pages. I'm sure that you can find something for bass that works for you somewhere on these pages. Have fun!
