would this work? one eight channel mixer mixing live drum mics, use the main out of that mixer run to channel one of the other mixer and use the channel one insert to send to the delta44...?...eight drum mics = one drum set = one delta 44 input = three inputs left for simultaneous 12 track recording...will it work?

Sure it will work, but you won't put each drums pair on separate tracks... There you'll find mixing difficulties latter. Let's say, it's better than put two mic overhead to record the whole drums set, and feed the signal to two input on your card, that will lead you to tracking only TWO tracks of the whole drums. The ideal is to put each instrument pair (kick, snare, toms, cymbals, hihat, etc...) on their own track, so you'll have the controll of them on your mixing session latter. But if you have limitation with your gear, then yes, your way can be done. Just make sure you capture the drums track properly in the first place. Be wise with your sub mixer (the 8 channels). Make correct gain, eq, pan, level, etc set. Otherwise you'll have a bad days of mixing latter. ;)

BTW, I wont take only ONE (mono) track for drums. AT LEAST I will put TWO (L/R) for drums.
