Can Garageband be used to record vocals from a condenser mic?

Hey all! I'm a complete newb so sorry in advance for my lack of knowledge.

I have a condenser mic that is plugged into an audio interface with the phantom power on, and connected to my mac. Neither garageband, nor audacity recognize my condenser mic though - just the built-in mic. Do I need a special program, such as ProTools, to record from my condenser mic, or am I missing something?

It's your audio interface that needs to be recognised by your computer and, via that, your DAW of choice. Either Garageband or Audacity should be able to do the job so I'd be looking earlier in the chain and go to whatever controls audio for a Mac and make sure your interface is recognised and selected. I'm a Windoze person so I can't be more detailed than that but hopefully a Mac user will be along shortly to explain further.
